Anyone watching Gangs of London? I have been really impressed by that. Very good action sequences in particular.

I have mate, finished it. really good, Sean the main man grew on me, i really thought he was a bit of a weasel first few episodes.

All in all a good show though, do you think they will do another?

{Ed001's Note - I hope so, it was a very good show.}

Anyone seen Watchmen yet? I am loving it so far but it is early days

On episode 2 just now, well filmed that's fer sure. Stylish show,

{Ed001's Note - I have seen the first two and it is extremely good so far. I just hope it maintains this level, or even, like The Boys did, get better as it goes along.}

Anyone else seen Pennyworth yet? It is the story of Alfred, Batman's butler, as a young man. So far it has been really good with some great details like the name of the local boozer and the streets it is on. Well worth a watch I think.

I've been keeping an eye out for when that was due out, didn't do a very good job though as I didn't see it had been released. I will have to give it a try, anything around the batman characters and I will give it a try. I'm looking forward to the joker movie too

{Ed001's Note - it's been good so far but early days as I have only seen the first 2 episodes.}

Top 10 Comedies

This was so hard to do, so many I realised after putting the list together that I forgot, such as Phoenix Nights with Peter Kay and Black Books with Dylan Moran, both of which really should be in there, but I decided not to alter it, even though they would definitely have been in there if I had remembered them when choosing 10. The only reason I am leaving them out still is simply because I could not decide where to put them, though both would be somewhere in the top 5. And now I have just remembered Royle Family as well! My top 10 is a complete shambles I apologise as I have completely forgotten about nearly half of the 10 that should be in there.

10. Married...With Children

I was still at school when this was on TV, late night on ITV if I remember correctly, at a time when I was supposed to be sleeping as I had school the next day. Whether it was actually that good or if it just seemed funnier because I was not supposed to be watching it (or Sledgehammer, which I also remember loving at the time), it has stuck with me and I still immediately think of the show when I see one of the stars of it in something else.

9. Men Behaving Badly

Looking back, I have no idea why this was even worth a watch but it seemed to work. It looks really dated now but then you look at the Clarkson/Hammond/May Top Gears/Grand Tours and you realise it is still going strong, just in a slightly different format. The thing about it was, we probably all identified with it to a degree, either in terms of knowing people like that or being like it ourselves.

8. The IT Crowd

This was on TV here the other day and it still made me laugh, Moss and Roy are great characters. It was just spoilt by Noel Fielding's infrequent appearances, which are about as funny as having teeth extracted without anaesthetic. The rest of the show was funny though silly.

7. Barry

Dark and violent as it is at times, it can shift to funny in a split second. Even in the midst of a scene of carnage it can make you laugh, especially through Noho Hank, who is ridiculous but funny. It should not work but it does.

6. Peep Show

The only thing these two have done together which is funny, Mitchell and Webb I mean. Somehow this show works. It is odd how the losers always make for the funnier characters. And these two are massive losers in the show.

5. Only Fools And Horses

It seemed to go on forever but still manage to stay, mostly, funny. There were odd episodes that failed to live up to the level of the rest but overall it is deservedly seen as one of the funniest shows of all time. Who can forget Del Boy and Rodney emerging out of the fog dressed as Batman and Robin to come to the rescue? And how many times have you heard someone quote lines from the show?

4. Red Dwarf

Cheap, cheerful, silly but somehow funny. It should never have worked but somehow it did most of the time. Oh and it introduced the word smeg to the general population, something my uncle Paul said all the time, long before Red Dwarf was thought of.

3. Two Pints of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps

Coarse, crass but seemed funny at the time. I do wonder if it would still work now, but it was funny. A lot of these shows have probably dated horribly thinking about it.

2. The Inbetweeners

Obviously not the US remake, which was the least funny abomination in history, but the original British version, which somehow was hilarious. That rare thing in a comedy show of being genuinely laugh out loud funny at times, as well as making you cringe at the stupidity of the characters. There are not enough shows made that are proper comedy shows that do make you laugh.

1. Fawlty Towers

It is not exactly PC and you could never make something like it now, but it is quite simply brilliant. Unlike many other shows they stopped before they ran out of ideas and just ended up repeating the same gags over and over. The best thing about it is that it was based on a real hotel and owner, that John Cleese met with the Monty Python crew when they stayed in the hotel while filming. He was such a horrible employer that the cook planted a bomb when he left while they were staying there! And who can forget some of the immortal lines from the show? I am sure we have all said 'don't mention the war' at least once in our lives.

Do you remember Game on Ed ? had Samatha Janus in it when she was super hot !! Ben Chaplin played Matt in the first season of episodes and he couldn't leave the flat !! great show that.

{Ed001's Note - oh gosh yes. Another one I forgot. They changed Matt but the new guy was good as well in the end. Loved that show. Damn I am crap at these top 10s!!!}

2.) 04 Jul 2019 12:13:32
Cheers for these lists ed! Shows how much the genre is struggling though with the majority of these being from 90's 00's.

Only fools is my personal favorite, mainly because i grew watching the repeats every Sunday. But I have never known a show that can make you change emotions so quickly, from genuine heartfelt moments, (where they were stuck in the lift) to laughing seconds later.

Two pints definitely won't age well. And would probably come across as incredibly sexist now!

And fawlty towers is just iconic, but i hope no one tries to replicate any of the above of reboot them. These should be left well alone!

3.) 04 Jul 2019 15:05:38
So good Game on was. Both matt's were good, I think there was another called Coupling, bit like the English version of friends. Don't make em like they use to that's fer sure. Think Game on was on before Xfiles on a Thursday night lol. Showing my age now.

{Ed001's Note - I remember Coupling, much better than Friends, which was awful. Never understood the raving about that.}

4.) 04 Jul 2019 16:29:05
I'm glad you put Red Dwarf in there, that was my favourite as a kid ^_^
No Only Fools and Horses or Blackadder?

{Ed001's Note - Only Fools is in there, but I did completely forget Blackadder. The whole list is a shambles!!}

5.) 04 Jul 2019 16:36:46
Father Ted is missing too, very sad =[

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=815Id8Mabe8

The last one gets me every time :D

{Ed001's Note - I forgot about that too. Dammit. Pretty much the worst list ever as only about 2 of them should actually be in it if I remembered everything.}

6.) 04 Jul 2019 21:22:06
Haha, I was writing up something about video games that revolutionised the industry, I got 3 game series down but went completely blank about any others, so I just cancelled it lol. And I can't believe I missed Only Fools and Horses from your list at #5.
Another one that you may remember is Brass Eye, the episode on the fake drug "Cake" and "Paedogeddon" had me rolling around laughing.
youtube.com/watch?v=P_4BZnWnXzI
Gary Lineker is just ridiculously easy to get! LOL.

7.) 05 Jul 2019 22:16:32
Open All Hours, Love Thy Neighbour, Dads Army, On The Buses, Bottom, 'Allo 'Allo, Poridge, The Young Ones, Last of the Summer Wine, One Foot in the Grave, Wallace and Gromit.

Damn Ed001, you might have to do this list again lol.

{Ed001's Note - can't stand any of them except Young Ones, which would probably make it.}

8.) 05 Jul 2019 22:20:49
Really? I quite like them. Maybe it's a sentimental thing as I used to watch all those while I visited my Grandad before he passed.

{Ed001's Note - they were dreadful though mate.}

My Top 10 Current TV Shows

By current I am going for ones who had a season that ran at least as recently as 2018.

10. Doom Patrol

For those who know their comic books, they will already know the characters as they are from a DC Comics series. It is one of the maddest, but most fun, shows on TV. From the bad guy, Mr Nobody's narration to the stories they cover, the show is incredible and just surprises you each week. Pure, brilliant insanity with some of the best characters you could imagine. I really did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did, though I do have to warn you that some of the scenes once seen can never be unseen! Oh and it is not aimed at children, with lots of strong language.

9. Deadly Class

Another comic book adaptation, this one is about a class of teenagers being trained as assassins in a special school back in the 1980s. It is full of violence and there are some graphic scenes but it is more than just an action show. Anything with a main bad guy named 'F**kface' is worth a watch.

8. Daredevil

Yes another comic book, this time a Marvel one. A much better adaptation than the film that was made using the character. It is just a shame they keep ending it as they stopped after 2 seasons, then brought it back for one more but have finished it again. The series, though clearly over the top in its judgement of the capabilities of a blind man using clicks to 'see' like a dolphin, is actually based on something some blind people can genuinely do. There have been a number of proven instances of blind people who use a kind of sonar to navigate. Sadly I doubt anyone of them have used it to fight crime! Anyway, back to the show and it is dark and violent, without the humour of the other two so far, but excellent anyway.

7. Titans

I promise you there are some shows in this list that are not comic book adaptations, though it is beginning to feel like I am obsessed with comic book shows, even though I have not read any of the comics they are adapted from. This one revolves around Nightwing, Batman's Robin when he is grown up, and has some excellent fight scenes. Just a shame that, like Doom Patrol and Deadly Class, it has only had one season so far. I am eagerly looking forward to a second one! It also did include Doom Patrol in a couple of episodes.

6. The Punisher

Ties in very closely with Daredevil and surpasses it in my opinion. If the movies they made with this character had been anywhere near as good they would have spawned a long-running franchise for sure. It is brutal but excellent and you cannot help but empathise with Frank Castle. The shame is that, like Daredevil, it has been cancelled too. The lead excelled, though the actor's name escapes me, and brought it all to life.

5. Barry

See I told you there were some non-comic book TV shows in the list! Barry is funny but dark and violent. Noho Hank is one of the best characters of all time and it goes swiftly from making you laugh to shocking you to pulling on your heartstrings and then back to making you laugh all within moments. I was not expecting to like it but I really do love this show. And it is so good to have 'The Fonz' back on TV as one of the main supporting cast members. Henry Winkler is really good in it.

4. Cobra Kai

This show is genius! Whoever pulled this all together has managed something brilliant. It is one thing to pick up the story from Karate Kid all these years later, but a completely different one to bring back all, and I do mean all, the same actors to pick up where they left off. It is not just a nostalgia-fest though, it is a genuinely good show in its own right with Jonny being the focus, rather than the bad guy. Your whole view of the original films changes when you start to see things from Jonny's viewpoint.

3. Stranger Things

This is just a fantastic TV show, which matches nostalgia for the 80s with a great story and some excellent acting. It is one of the first times I have seen a TV show starring kids that can actually act and they have developed their characters really well, especially the bromance between Steve and Dustin. With season 3 due out soon, if you have not yet seen this show I highly recommend sitting down and binge watching the first two seasons.

2. The Expanse

Just an outstanding TV show, it has turned science fiction into art while not neglecting to tell a story really well. The characters are excellent, with some great interactions between them, to make it feel more real than you would expect of such a show. The tensions between the three distinct groups of humans makes sense and the effects are amazing. Syfy must be mad to let this show go and Amazon have picked up a winner.

1. Warrior

I love martial arts films and this show, based on a story by Bruce Lee, is as good as the best of them. It is reminiscent of a cross between Peaky Blinders and Enter The Dragon, with a little bit of Western sprinkled in. Some great characters make it even better. Just have to say 10 shows so far is not enough!

Ed001

1.) 16 Jun 2019 12:00:44
Nice list, I don't watch that many TV shows, I find the ones I pick tend to get cancelled lol.

That's my only worry for the expense. The first 3 seasons were on the SyFy channel and didn't get watched by too many people, so I'm not sure it will pull the numbers in through Amazon.

Have you watched the HBO miniseries Chernobyl? Only 5 episodes but very good.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen Chernobyl yet, it doesn't really appeal to me to be honest.}

2.) 16 Jun 2019 12:52:53
I think the punished actor you were looking for was Jon bernthal, he was in the walking dead as well. And if you haven't seen it another show you may like is umbrella academy. It's good fun and is of course like most things now a days based off a comic boon seires. Also for anyone with sky all the episodes of warrior will be available to watch from the 25th of June I believe. I will certainly be giving it a go

{Ed001's Note - that's him! And I have seen Umbrella Academy, very good but just not quite as good as the others I felt.}

3.) 16 Jun 2019 13:03:53
I agree, I prefer the marvel a and dc shows a but more also, I think umbrella academy is more quirky and fun then anything else. It's a shame that the Disney streaming service and the streaming "wars" has taken the likes of daredevil and punisher away although I feel the final seasons did at least tie up their stories well and didn't leave us on a cliffhanger. Lucifer is also a delightful show, no as good in objective quality I suppose but just very charming

{Ed001's Note - I like Lucifer too, another that just missed the cut, mainly because the latest season did not quite live up to the previous ones.

Not all the DC ones are good - Supergirl, Flash and Arrow are rubbish. Just really poorly done like an old comic book kids show. I do like Legends of Tomorrow now it has moved on its own path and become a genuinely good comedy. First few seasons were poor, but now it is just good fun and one of the better comedy shows around.}

4.) 16 Jun 2019 13:53:36
Yeah I was thinking more on the line of streaming services then network television, especially when it comes to the cw, the 22 episode long format is just too long to sustain quality over multiple seasons which is why all the dc shows have declined in quantity in my view. The first two season of flash and arrow were really good I found but then came the inevitable decline. As you say legends is the only one that has actually seen an increase in quality over its time on the air. I certainly won't be sinking any time into the new batwoman show which looks more of the same.

And of course if you're bored and there's nothing to watch just put on highlights from the European cup this, that's what i do. In fact the redmen tv on YouTube made a documentary style recap of the whole run in the European cup for Liverpool so i watched that the other day and it was really well done. Showing their vlogs from matchdays and reactions to last year final all the way to the parade

{Ed001's Note - there is always stuff to watch, if I need something to watch I just watch footage of players for profiles.}

Ok you are right, it is as good, maybe even better, than the first two, but what a way to end it! Yes I ended up bingeing the whole thing while writing an article. Such a good show, never going to win any awards or anything but it is so damn watchable.

Is Mr Inbetween on there? If so that is well worth a watch. Gets better as it goes along - the Socks episode is one that makes you drop everything to see what happens.
